Local Lad Luke Is Top Of The World
Its always a real boost for the community when a local lad or gal achieves something special and last weekend witnessed one of these occasions.
Warrington born and bred Luke Litter, or Luke “the Nuke” as he is affectionately known to his friends, (and not so affectionately by his competitors), stunned a multinational crowd in Minehead last Sunday to win the World Youth Darts Championship.
Already tipped as a mercurial talent Luke showed maturity beyond his years during the competition to see off one of the best young darts players in the world, Ned Van Veen. With the score at 1-1, Luke went on to win the next four legs but then kept his cool to fight off a brave comeback from world No 1, Ned. With the score at 5-4 in Luke’s favour Ned missed a double 5 to draw equal and Luke stepped up to get the winning double 20 with his first dart, bringing the watching house down in the progress.
The occasion was dramatic in so many ways, not least in witnessing the composure that Luke showed at such a young age. The win will now see him entered into the senior competition where he will be potentially be facing past and previous world champions.
The good news for all Lightcliffe customers especially darts players is that Luke was signed up as an affiliate just a few weeks ago by GM John, and as a result will be paying us a visit soon to show off his skills first-hand and give everyone a chance to play against the best.
So a huge congratulations to a young man embarking on what looks like being a stellar career and watch this space for details of forthcoming events.
