Lightcliffe Helps To Clean Up The Community
With all the technology available to mankind, there is one issue that is seemingly unsolvable and that is litter.
More than two million pieces of litter are dropped in the UK every day with Almost 48% of people admit to dropping litter. The amount of litter dropped each year in the UK has increased by 500% since the 1960s. 7 out of every 10 items of discarded litter is food packaging or wrappers.
Warrington is no different to most other places in the UK, and in spite of it having more litter picking volunteers than average, the ongoing problem persists. However in 2021 volunteers throughout the town collected around 7,000 bags of litter, working closely with Warrington BC, with whom we have an excellent working relationship.
As part of the Lightcliffe community support plan, we have recently agreed to sponsor the Warrington Sunday Litter Team, a local organisation dedicated to cleaning up the community.
The next event for the this team is a litter-pick on the morning of Sunday 7th August focused on cleaning up the A49 corridor from their dealership on the Long Lane junction down to the McDonalds outlet further down Winwick Road. Our support will fund hi-vis safety vests for volunteers, paving the way towards a unique relationship between Lightcliffe Skoda and a range of Litter Teams in Warrington aimed at establishing an even cleaner environment throughout the town.
If anyone is interested in joining them on 7th, please contact the dealership for details and pre-register their interest and the team hold a risk briefing outside Decathlon from 8.45am that morning.
